Thankful Banner

I’ve always been fascinated by time capsules. Looking back and seeing what was important to us at various times in our lives. Seeing a little kid’s scrawl and watching it mature over time.

Such a poignant glimpse into daily lives.

Quick somebody tell me a joke before I start crying! Gah! All.The.Emotions.

So when ZINK Imaging asked me create a project to celebrate Thanksgiving, I knew I wanted to make a Thankful banner that captured the spirit of “a glimpse in time”.

But I wanted it to be something that was seen, because, if nothing else, I am a glutton for emotional punishment. I didn’t want us to write down our greatest blessings of the past year, and then tuck them away in a buried time capsule somewhere.

I wanted it out in the open for us to laugh at, reflect on and be reminded daily that we do have many blessings and reasons to be thankful.

The ONLY supplies you need are a ZINK printer, scrapbook paper, twine and a Sharpie!

This could not have been easier and I love the personal touches.

I started by cutting the scrapbook paper into pennant shapes. (hint: I use a W R Memory Keepers Banner Punch Board to make this super easy and quick!)

Then I got comfy on my couch and started designing with my ZINK app. Yep, still love the fact that this is wifi and I can just design and send it to the printer to work it’s magic! Be sure to check out this post for more details on how the ZINK works.

For each of our individual pennants, I printed out a picture rather than just labeling it with names. I wanted to remember what we all looked like at this exact stage, and since the ZINK app connects to your Instagram, Facebook and phone storage, I had tons of pictures to choose from.

I also printed out a little “I’m thankful for…” label for each of these pennants.

For the center pennant, I printed off a little film strip with a family photo and our new puppy (since he was one of the greatest blessings of this year!)

These little photo strips are one of my daughter’s favorite things to do with our ZINK. Great Christmas gift idea for teens who love Instagram!

The rest of the pieces for this pennant came together using only the designs and fonts that are preloaded on your ZINK app. I mixed up some of the backgrounds and some of the tape sizes to give it a little variety.

This is what it looks like once you have all of your pieces printed.

Then you just peel the backing off and stick them down! No glue needed!

Add some twine, hang it up and then give everyone a hug and a big ole “I LOVE YOU!!!”

Create a new one every year and start an annual tradition! How awesome would it be after 18 years, to put all of my daughter’s together in one banner and have almost a timeline of her life! Ugh, crying again…

Here’s a quick video with some more ways to use the ZINK:
